Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the five villages of the Côte de Blancs. Premier Cru vineyards face east and southeast, and the Chardonnay grapes are grown in soils of brown clay and limestone. La Romanée is located in the southern part of the commune, on high land. The Chardonnay grapes are fermented in oak barrels, and then the wine is matured for 12 to 15 months in barrel before bottling.
This Premier Cru has a lovely golden color and a rich aroma of white fruit, hazelnuts and almonds. The wine is full-bodied without being heavy, and well balanced. It will develop in the bottle for 10 to 15 years.
