2020 Bouchard Pere et Fils Volnay Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot 1er Cru

This is the first vineyard bought by the house in 1775 and the Carnot family from whom it was purchased is still mentioned on the label. This vineyard site is considered among the best in Volnay and was rated a Tete De Cuvee in 1855 by Dr. Lavalle. A light smoky and leather character on the nose with red cherry fruit with oriental spices and rose petal floral notes very pretty and nuanced bouquet. Good stuffing on the palate with thick red cherry fruit and also has some firm tannins and a mouth puckering acidity very big but still has elegance and finesse but this wine needs time , some of that exotic spice from the nose showing through on the finish.
