2011 Vina Cobos Cobos Malbec Marchioli Vineyard

2011 Vina Cobos Cobos Malbec Marchioli Vineyard image

(92 Points) The 2011 Cobos Malbec Marchiori Vineyard is pure Malbec sourced from the oldest ungrafted vines from the Marchiori vineyard in Perdriel (Lujan de Cuyo) which are over 80 years old, handpicked on April 27 and matured in new Taransaud French oak for 18 months. They have always used the same 2.2 hectares from the same plot for this single vineyard (in fact single plot) wine, where the bunches and grapes are smaller than the typical Malbec bunches, and the wine displays a powerful nose of black ripe, jammy fruit with notes of exotic woods, dark chocolate and peat. The dense palate is full-bodied with round, sweet tannins, and plenty of fruit, alcohol and acidity. A big, concentrated Malbec. I find more freshness and balance in the Marchiori Bramare. Drink 2016-2022.   Wine Advocate #212, Apr 2014
