Bordeaux has become one of my favorite topics and the store is absolutely full of great wines from every major appellation of Bordeaux. Tonight I will dig into my stash of vintage Bordeaux to throw a party and why not it’s Friday! Toni Lampasone from Wine Watch Catering will be providing a few small courses to pair with the wines. This is a sit down tasting and is limited to 16 tasters, the fee for this event is $195 all-inclusive for reservations call 954-523-9463.
1949 Chateau Pichon Lalande Comtesse Pauillac
Price: $650.00
(86 Pints) A pretty wine with lovely perfumes and fruit, but it's slightly disappointing on the palate. Medium in body, with firm tannins and a moderately milky, plummy aftertaste.--Pichon-Lalande vertical. -JS
1975 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou St. Julien
Price: $150.00
(87 Points) I have never been a fan of this wine. I lost confidence in it when it was around ten years of age because of its hard, angular, austere, tannic style. In the most recent tasting, the wine exhibited more ripe fruit than I had previously noticed. There is still plenty of astringent, aggressive tannin, but the balance is better, and the wine reveals a complex, earthy, cedar, curranty nose with dried fruit and herb components, full body, and a classic, old style personality. It displays more finesse and character than it did at a younger age. Like many 1975s, it will keep for 20+ years ... but will the fruit hold up? Wine Advocate # 103, Feb 1996
1982 Giscours Margaux
Price : $150
(87 Points) Dark ruby-garnet in color, with tobacco, chocolate and berry aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and plenty of milk chocolate on the finish. Slightly dry.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now. -JS
1982 Chateau Lynch Bages Pauillac
Price: $450.00
(94 Points) This is another Lynch Bages that has never gone through an awkward, disjointed stage where it completely shut down. The color remains a dense ruby with some lightening at the edge. Thick, juicy, succulent notes of creme de cassis intermixed with dried herbs, vanillin, minerals, and anise leap from the glass. Fleshy and full-bodied, with the vintage's voluptuous texture and low acid, fruit/glycerin-dominated flavors well-displayed in its full-bodied personality, this wine tastes young, but is also ready to drink. Anticipated maturity: now-2015. Wine Advocate # 129, June 2000
1983 Leoville Las Cases St. Julien
Price: $225.00
(91 Points) This tasting consisted of each of the varietal components of Las Cases, followed by the final blend for Leoville-Las Cases. The 1983 Merlot was fully mature, displaying medium ruby color with some amber at the edge, a curranty, coffee, herb, olive-scented nose, good body and spice, and sweet fruit flavors. It needs to be drunk up. The light-bodied, loosely-knit 1983 Cabernet Franc exhibited plenty of spicy, cedary fruit, and an attractive suppleness. This youthful and vibrant wine requires drinking. The low-acid, cedary, fat Cabernet Sauvignon was close to full maturity, with excellent richness and intensity, and a supple, soft finish. The disappointing Petit Verdot revealed a damp, earthy, fecal-like aroma, high acid and tannin, and a hollow, tough finish. The fully mature 1983 Leoville-Las Cases possessed a deep ruby color with no signs of lightening. An open-knit, smoky, cassis, and cedary-scented nose was followed by a supple, rich, medium to full-bodied wine with excellent definition, outstanding ripeness and concentration, and a spicy, soft, velvety-textured finish. Drink this wine over the next 12-15+ years.

1985 Chateau Cos D'Estournel St. Estephe
Price: $187.50
(93 Points) The 1985 from cask could have been a lighter version of the 1982 and 1953 vintages. Forward, with a fabulously scented bouquet of pain grille and concentrated red and black fruits (especially black cherries), it is rich, lush, long, and medium to full-bodied. Very fragrant, with gobs of sweet black fruits, minerals, and spice in both its flavors and aromatics, this is one of the most forward wines from Cos. Anticipated maturity: now-2010. Last tasted 4/97. Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition # B1, Jan 1998
1988 Chateau Latour Pauillac
Price: $375.00
The best showing yet for a wine from this under-rated vintage, the dark garnet-colored 1988 Latour reveals slight amber at the edge. A bouquet of melted tar, plums, black currants, cedar, and underbrush is followed by a sweet entry, with medium to full body, excellent ripeness, and mature tannin. It is a classic, elegant Latour with more meaty, vegetable-like flavors than are found in a riper year, such as 1989 and 1990. The 1988 has just begun to enter its plateau of maturity, where it should remain for 25 years. Anticipated maturity: now-2025 Wine Advocate # 129
