I think that when they finish looking into the census numbers for 2010 you will see that number probably going down with the values coming from all over the wine world making a big hit in the value end of the wine market. I have been touting the values coming from Argentina and Chile for quite some time now. What a surprise, were having another Argentina wine tasting....

The star here is the Malbec varietal and this is the only wine producing nation that can make GREAT wines from this ancient Bordeaux varietal. It is this counties extreme altitude that makes it perfect for the Malbec vareital and thus making it possible to make world class wines from Malbec in this unique wine region. Join us as we reveal some of the newest finds from the new up and coming superstars from this exciting new world wine country. Located alongside olive groves in a 375 acre area owned and operated by VALLE DE LA PUERTA, the vineyards are located in the Famatina Valley, near the town of Chilecito in the province of La Rioja, 3,280 feet above sea level. The climate is semi-arid with large temperature swings between day and night. The soil is a deep sandy-clay of alluvial origin. Drip irrigation from underground wells is used during bud break (Sept.-Oct.), veraison and after the harvest. "Powerful honeysuckle and other floral aromas are characteristic of this unique wine, the grapes for which are grown almost exclusively in Argentina. It has an elegant pale yellow color with hints of green, while on the palate crisp acidity provides a cleanliness and platform for the citrus flavors. Finishes clean and refreshing, with more floral hints."
Fresh white flowers perfume quinnine and white quince and white peach like fruit. A unique flavor profile lots of perfume and floral notes with a light spritz and good freshness on the finish a bit on the sweet side but some will really like this. finish 30+

Alpataco Pinot Noir Patagonia 2007

Alpataco is a wild bush that grows in Patigonia, made by Paul Hobbs. The sight offers red tones which become brick red as time passes by. The nose detects various flowers and red fruit such as raspberry, gooseberry and strawberry, in addition to fine notes of vanilla and cocoa due to the wood. The mouth-feel is round, fruity with sweet tannins and moderate acidity.
